There’s something special about dads getting together, rolling up their sleeves, and building something cool for their kids. It’s the same energy behind model trains in the basement, go-karts built from scrap metal, and Saturday mornings spent fixing toys on the kitchen table. Now we’re bringing that magic to The Sandbar & Grill with a brand new monthly community event:

Dads + Dirt = Core Memories

And yes — before we go any further:
Not a dad? Not a problem! Everyone is invited.

This isn’t about labels. It’s about showing up, hanging out, and building something awesome together.

What Is Dads + Dirt?

Imagine a giant indoor sandbox filled with crawler obstacles, dirt mounds, bridges, tunnels, and construction zones… and then imagine a bunch of grown adults turning into excited kids while building new features for the course.

That’s the vibe.

You bring your creativity (and optionally your own RC crawler).
We provide space, tools, sand, and the community.

Every month, the course grows — and the memories grow with it.

Hands-On Builds, Open Crawl, and RC Fun for All Ages

Whether you're into 1/18–1/20 scale crawlers, RC construction equipment, excavators, dump trucks, or bulldozers, this event is the perfect playground.

The schedule is simple:

3 PM – 6 PM → Build Time

• Work together to design and create new obstacles

• Teach your kids or just enjoy the break

• Build the next chapter of the sandbox course

6 PM – 10 PM → Open Crawl

• Bring your own rig

• Or rent one of ours (kids ride free with adult entry!)

• Take on the course YOU helped build

Who We Are — Youngstown RC Club (YRC)

We’re a community-first group dedicated to making RC accessible, fun, and welcoming for everyone. Our mission is to:

• Grow the RC hobby in the Mahoning Valley

• Bring families together

• Create safe, positive, educational play spaces

• Support local businesses and nonprofits

• Build the next generation of makers, engineers, and hobbyists

YRC runs events, workshops, meetups, and now — our biggest partnership yet — a standing monthly event inside The Sandbar & Grill. With the Sandbar’s massive indoor sandbox and our expertise in crawlers and construction rigs, it’s the perfect place to plant a community that grows.

We’re proud to co-sponsor this event alongside Ari’s Eyes RC, a youth-centered RC group powered by Councilman Julius Oliver and inspired by his son, Ari — a 4-year-old crawler phenom and classmate of Mr. Bellamy’s son, Wynton.

Together, we’re building something bigger than obstacles.
We’re building belonging.

Why This Event Matters

Dads often don’t get enough spaces to just… be dads. To show up and build. To connect with their kids. To connect with each other.

This event is purposely structured like a “play date for dads,” without ever calling it that.

It’s laid-back.
It’s hands-on.
It’s creative.
It’s goofy.
It’s wholesome.
It’s community.

And the kids?
They’ll remember seeing their dad build something cool with his hands.
You can’t put a price on that.

Community First, Always

Yes — there’s a bar and kitchen.
Yes — we rent crawlers and excavators (with low-cost and no-cost options during the event).
Yes — we have sponsors, clubs, and partners.

But above everything else?

This is about Youngstown showing up for Youngstown.

We want this to become a monthly ritual — a tradition — where families grow, friendships deepen, and memories stack like the obstacles in the sandbox.
